Coffee Storage Tips.....
When purchasing coffee....
For the best tasting cup of coffee, we recommend buying the freshest coffee beans which you can grind at home just before use. Coffee beans retain their flavor for up to three times longer then ground coffee. If you don't own a grinder, buy vacuum sealed coffee and freezing after opening. Ground coffee often looses it's flavor faster then whole bean. Ground coffee is much smaller then whole bean coffee. Since the grounds are much smaller, the surface area is smaller and particles of oxygen enter which speeds the loss of the coffee's natural oils.
Containers to store your coffee....
It's always best to store your coffee in an airtight container. This will reduce exposure to moisture and oxygen. The best containers are those made of glass or those with a rubber sealing lid.
Where to store your coffee....
It's best NOT to store your coffee in the refrigerator section of your refrigerator since this can add moisture and other flavors to the coffee. FREEZING will maintain the best freshness of your coffee and allow you to store it for longer periods of time. Moisture is always the enemy of storing coffee, be sure to store in a moisture proof container. Whole beans are known to freeze better then ground coffee which will help provide you with the best flavor.
When preparing the perfect cup of coffee....
ALWAYS use cold water for brewing. Cold water contains a small amount of dissolved oxygen, which hot water lacks, therefore, the latter has a flat taste. Use the recommended ratio of coffee grounds to water according to the coffee maker's instructions. For a medium-strong cup, use a standard measure of 1 level table spoon per 6 oz. Preferred strength will vary based on the coffee drinker's experience and location.
